We want to 'GIVE' some tips to help provide an enjoyable candle experience. It all begins with proper candle care and maintenance.

the first burn

  • As with all candles, the first burn is the most important! Let your candle burn for at least 2 hours until an even pool of wax reaches the sides of your amber jar. This is called a complete 'melt pool' and helps your candle to prevent 'tunneling' while creating 'candle memory' which may determine how well your candle melts for the remainder of its life.
  • Tunneling is when the wick burns straight down the center of a candle without creating a full melt pool
  • If a candle is not burned for long enough to allow the wax to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar, it will create a “memory ring.” Once a candle has a “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel for the life of the candle.

 trimming the wick

  • Keeping your wicks trimmed 1/4''-/1/8'' before every subsequent burn will help the flame burn clean & bright, reduce wick mushrooming
and minimize black soot/smokey residue from filling the jar.
  • Mushrooming occurs when excess carbon builds up at the end the candle wick causing a mushroom shape after or while burning.
  • If soot begins to form inside of your candle, extinguish it, let it cool, wipe with a damp cloth, trim your wick and start over.
  • Trimmed wicks can also ensure a longer, slower burn time. Remember to toss any wick trimmings!

getting a good 'hot scent throw'

  • There are two types of scent a candle can give off: cold throw or hot throw. The 'cold throw' is the fragrance of an unlit candle. The 'hot throw' is the scent it gives off when it's lit.
  • Open windows and doors will disperse scent and lessen the concentration. For max fragrance, keep windows and doors closed and burn in desired area for 30 mins before entering.

how to tell if your candle is burning properly

    • Efficient burning means flame is not flickering, teardrop shaped and upright. Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. These signs indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn't controlled. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before re-lighting.

    extinguishing your candle

    • Extinguish candle with a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten wick to prevent smoking and also prevent hot wax from splattering. Blowing is not recommended but do it gently, if you must.
    • After you blow your candle out, let it cool and check the wick. Gently guide it back towards the center, as candle wicks tend to wiggle around and get out of place.

    how to store your candles

    • Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place.
    • Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting such as spotlights.

    don't forget

    • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
    • Do not fall asleep with your candle lit.
    • Do not burn your candle all the way down.  Always leave at least ½ inch of wax to avoid overheating the jar.
